The string quartet as a genre occupies a very special place in Béla Bartók's oeuvre. His characteristic compositional style and his unique tonal language can be experienced in his six quartets in concentrated form. Similar to Beethoven, each of Bartók's quartets seems to summarize the developments of an entire preceding creative period • In 1937 Bartók entrusted his biographer with the task of "condensing to extremes in the quartets" • The Carmina Quartet, founded in 1984 in Switzerland, is characterized by great musical intensity, self-evident perfection and a keen interest in stylistic faithfulness to the original, and the "Financial Times" is one of the leading string quartets of its time ranked.
