Born in 1929 and emerging from bebop, she had her first appearances with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie at the age of 16. -Betty Bebop- she was called Lionel Hampton, who brought the singer into his big band in 1948, when she was not yet twenty years old. She stayed until 1951. In the mid-1960s, things fell silent around the singer, since on the one hand she refused to become more commercial and on the other hand she wanted to take care of her two children. In the early 70's she founded her own label -Bett-Car- and shortly afterwards experienced a phenomenal comeback. Up until 1998 Betty Carter's deep, smoky voice, which was nevertheless clear in the highs, could be heard live everywhere five were unpublished. • Jazz podium
