The extraordinarily talented Erich Wolfgang Korngold, who was considered a child prodigy from an early age, followed in the footsteps of the great late Romantics such as Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler and Hans Pfitzner with his compositions. But it was precisely this predilection for enchanting melodies and formal coherence that brought him to the age of the emerging modernist Avant-garde the reputation of a reactionary. On the other hand, it is precisely these stylistic features in Korngold's music that explain the now immensely growing interest in his works, which also includes these intimate and imaginative songs on this CD. It is time that Korngold's songs, in addition to those of Schubert, Schumann, Brahms and Wolf, finally finding her way into the repertoire.
