"If you consider that this is a live recording, you can only admire Gardiner's overview and especially his internalization of the musical material. For example in the bass aria 'Eilt, ihr angefechtenen Seelen' with the questioningly reserved interjections of the choir 'Wohin'. The cabinet pieces in Gardiner's version are always the arias. Here the instruments dialogue, comment and articulate with the singers like living figures. In the soprano aria 'Ich folge dir ebenfallsfalls' - here at an unusually fast tempo, but performed with crystal-clear precision by Joanne Lunn and the flute and bassoon - one hears refined chamber music and at the same time a comprehensible musical-theological interpretation.
