Creativity and productivity were equally strong in father and son Scarlatti. Father Alessandro had introduced a new opera school in Naples, son Domenico wrote a remarkable series of sonatas during his time at the Spanish court, of which 555 have survived. The sonatas served primarily as practice pieces for his student, the Spanish Infanta Maria Barbara, who ascended the Spanish throne in 1746.
The Chinese pianist Chu-Fang Huang, who has won many awards at international competitions, recorded the 13th episode of this series from one of the richest and most versatile treasures of the keyboard repertoire of the 18th century.
