Kansas-born mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato is one of the most successful singers of her generation. Her impressive repertoire ranges from contemporary opera (she performed at the New York Met in Jake Heggie's opera Dead Man Walking) to baroque music (she sings Dejanira in the DVD production of Handel's Hercules on the next page). Lawrence Heym, label founder of Eloquentia and sound engineer of previous recordings of Joyce DiDonato, offered the singer the opportunity to record her first solo CD. They agreed on this contemporary American program, with which Joyce DiDonato could fulfill a heartfelt wish.
