While the first four quartets date from the 1940s, the last quartet occupies a special position, not only because it was composed in the 1960s. It is a remarkable work full of exuberant melodic ideas, which in 1965 was performed by the young Amadeus Quartet not only in the concert hall but also on the radio.
Our interpreter is the Nomos Quartet, which has already distinguished itself in earlier cpo recordings by "sympathetic timbre and spirited, flexible playing" • (FonoForum).Frankel: String Quartet No. 1, Op. 14
