Even though he is known today mainly as an orchestral composer, Florent Schmitt (1870-1958) left behind an extensive body of piano works that stylistically covers both late Romanticism and Impressionism, even Expressionism, but is by no means averse to neoclassical jokes. Among the piano works are also those for four hands, covering the most diverse aspects of this often underestimated literature. Christian Ivaldi and Jean-Claude Pennetier take us on a varied journey in their selection on the discovery label TIMPANI, which in the case of Une semaine du petit elfe Ferme-l'oeil takes us into the world of childlike fantasy, in the case of Refl ets d'Allemagne on a round trip through Germany, and in the case of Feuillets de voyage into the composer's rooms.
