Born in 1957, Angelin Preljocaj has already created 35 works in the 26 years of his career to date, making him the most prolific choreographer of his generation. in 2010, Siddharta, the fourth work by this highly idiosyncratic artist, was performed for the Ballet de l'Opéra at the Opéra Bastille. The ballet describes the life of Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism, in 16 images. In search of enlightenment, he embarks on a long journey and has to overcome a number of obstacles. Nicolas Le Riche embodies Siddharta, who assumes the pose of a Buddha radiant from within at the moment of enlightenment. He is danced by Aurélie Dupont as the figure of enlightenment, Alice Renavand as his wife and Muriel Zusperreguy as the romantic peasant girl Sujata.

For the first time, the Paris Opéra worked with the young French composer Bruno Mantovani, who wrote his first large-scale ballet music for this work.
