"Muti elicits playing and singing of the highest quality from everyone involved. He breathes with the singers, knows when to give them a little space and when to tighten the reins. The ensembles are wonderfully clearly structured with internal tension, and the aria accompaniments are developed with a love of detail. The tempo and dynamic treatment foreshadow what will soon become an important standard of interpretation of the original sound movement. Muti conducts a variable, even colorful Mozart, always lively and beautiful in sound.
