Far too seldom does Schubert's song and piano music take place on a fortepiano. Especially in the field of song accompaniment, this opens up undreamt-of possibilities. After the highly acclaimed Chopin recording, Artur Schoenderwoord, together with Johannette Zomer, is now devoting himself to a few songs and piano pieces by Schubert. Among them are some of Schubert's most famous compositions, such as Gretchen am Spinnrad and Ellen's third song (better known as the strained Ave Maria). What these pieces have in common is that they deal with decidedly girlish female characters. The programme is lightened up by some smaller, little known piano pieces by Schubert.
