The title FRUITS OF SOLITUDE refers to Duke Ellington's composition Solitude, which was already an important source of inspiration during my youth. The first band I played in at 16 had this piece in its repertoire, the Ellington recording had not yet entered my consciousness at that time.
For the current program - it is being recorded as a CD for Werner Uehlinger's HAT HUT label - I wrote some variations on Solitude, but these are only to be seen as a starting point. A number of new pieces, independent of Solitude, are added, such as a reverence to Martial Solal, the composer of the film music for Godard's Ausser Atem, or a Garden with Blue Terrace inspired by David Hockney. Also tucked into this (new) septet lineup are mini-ensembles like the G(ood)luck Trio with Mario Arcari and Attila Pasztor, or the longtime duo with Peter Herbert. I have an old friendship with Daniele D'Agaro, we played together in Andrea Centazzo's Central Europe Orchestra in the 80s, the phenomenal horn player Jon Clark I met at the Outreach Festival in Tyrol, and the Wynton Marsalis calibrated star bassoonist Milan Turkovic will round off the septet 'cosmopolitan'.
