Conducted by Roberto Abbado, who has recorded Verdi’s Macbeth (CDS7915.02) in the original 1865 French version for Paris and the performance has won the Premio Franco Abbiati della Critica Musicale Italiana in 2021.
New staging directed by Jacopo Spirei, on a project by Graham Vick.
The libretto used for this production is the original one set in Sweden (by Verdi) for the opera’s Roman première, before the Papal censors required that the action be moved to colonial Boston.
