Ute Lemper's newest creation is a song cycle to the love poems of the great Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (1904-73), set to music by Ms. Lemper and Marcelo Nisinman and accompanied by her band with special guest Freddy Torrealba on Charango (an Andean stringed instrument of the lute family resembling a guitar). This release follows on the heels of Ms. Lemper’s 2012 Steinway & Sons best-selling debut disc, Paris Days, Berlin Nights. This next release is a very delicate and beautiful songbook, presented mainly in Spanish, but also containing adaptations in French and English. It is a celebration of these especially sensual poems by Neruda, written while in residence at his Casa de Isla Negra in the coastal Chilean community of Isla Negra after many years in exile.
