Die Csárdáfürstin tells an improbable tale of the mismatch between a showgirl, Sylva, and an aristocrat, Prince Edwin. Richard Bonynge conducts a lively, beautifully sprung performance, made the more idiomatic by using an East European orchestra. Yvonne Kenny as Sylva gives a characterful, idiomatic performance, well supported by singers very much in the operetta tradition, and by Michael Roider as Edwin and Mojca Erdmann and Marko Kathol as the second couple.
