Miguel de Cervantes' novel about Don Quixote de la Mancha, the knight of the sad figure, was published in 1605. The year 2005 became the Cervantes Year thanks to the four hundredth anniversary of this monument of European literaturę. •
On this occasion, Jordi Savall presented a musical interpretation of all ballads and songs of the novel. Cervantes has included in his novel many ballads that have been part of Spain's living cultural tradition for centuries. When Don Quixote was written, the music that Cervantes wanted to combine with his novel was still known to wide circles of the population, either through oral tradition or through distribution in printed publications. The poet could therefore be sure that when reading Don Quixote his readers knew the music to the poems interspersed with it. The musical restoration of this music for today's listeners was a hard piece of musicological work, the results of which are presented in this SACD
