Ernst Ottensamer is a most sensitive artist and a superb player with an appealingly warm, liquid tone. Apart from sailing through all Spohr’s decorative roulades and technical extravagances with aplomb, he plays over the widest range of dynamic, often fining down his tine to a pianissimo to echo a phrase with magical effect. Johann Wildner provides lively, polished accompaniments, and the recording is first rate. It is difficult to imagine these performances being surpassed, and this pair of discs would be highly recommended if they cost far more. • Penguin Guide, January 2009
