The 7th and last part is about the period 2000-2010, but also contains some recordings from 2011. Then the question immediately arises, why was the St Matthew Passion under Chailly from 1999 not released after all? Unfortunately, Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony (which is not covered much in this series anyway) under Chailly from 2000 is also missing. I understand that space is limited, but could it not have been recorded in a less contemporary (Dutch) way? Another question, why are recordings by conductors such as Sokhiev, Nelsons and Gatti missing? Conductors from the authentic movements are also poorly represented, while the orchestra has been playing more baroque again in recent years.
Of course, there are beautiful recordings by Chailly, Haitink, Jansons, Colin Davis, Ed Spanjaard, Luisi and Blomstedt in particular and the repertoire is varied, with the exception of the overdose of contemporary compositions that will most likely be out of the repertoire in a few decades. . Another downside, sometimes the recordings leave something to be desired in terms of sound technology.
It is one of the worst speakers in this series. Too bad, it could have been much better.
