opis
The music of Richard Strauss is one of the cornerstones of Soile Isokoski's career as a singer, both in opera and on the concert stage. Most of the songs on this album are of a lush romanticism, but there are also some dark soul paintings like Mein Herz ist mute. Richard Strauss had the most active phase in his song writing until 1906, after which he wrote songs sporadically, but his operas took up a lot of his time. In November 1948, at the age of 84, he composed another song, Die Malven, which was only published after his death. Strauss dedicated "this last rose", which is also the last song on the CD, to his favourite soprano Maria Jeritza. The singer always kept the manuscript, which was only discovered after her death, in her possession, and so Die Malven only received its first public performance in 1985. "Strauss clearly loved his singers, because his works are very sensual," Isokoski notes, "and her wonderful voice - pure in tone, simple and full of instrumentality, which Strauss would certainly have loved very much, obviously fits his songs perfectly
