Nakład wyprzedany, ostatnie 2 egzemplarzeBach composed his Goldberg Variations for the sleepless Count Keyserlingk, but obviously not as a lullaby, otherwise he would hardly have used his entire compositional imagination to create one of the most exciting variation works of his time. Since he himself published it in his Clavier-Übung, he will have been clear about the rank of his composition. In the title Bach, who was otherwise thrifty with instrumentation details, determines the work explicitly for the harpsichord. So Gunther Rost takes a risk when he plays the work faithfully on the manuals of the organ. But he brings with him the fullness of the timbres of a glittering new French baroque organ, to represent the wealth of ideas of Bach's music, which his pupil Johann Gottlieb Goldberg played to his sleepless master as nightly entertainment on the harpsichord. •
Under the title Contemplations Anne Queffélec has put together a programme of slow movements from Bach's oeuvre, original works or transcriptions by Busoni, Hess, Kempff and others to create a very personal homage to Bach.
