Schweizer has a special affinity for piano/percussion duets, having previously recorded with Louis Moholo, Günter Sommer, Andrew Cyrille an Pierre Favre. The Intakt catalogue number seems to have waited for this duet for years. Each of these sessions has had its own character, with Schweizer playing toward the specific rhythmic and melodic style of each drummerÉ Han Bennink seems to bring out Schweizer's wit and her sense of Jazz roots. One of the joys of this dialogue is how each musician's time is. At different points this lets each of them wonder very far afield while the other hold to a constant patternÉ Schweizer may be best known as a virtuosic free improviser, but she's as true to both the letter and the spirit of Monk as anyone, making the same oblique and witty dance with the material that Monk did.
