With her first three albums, the Maliian singer Rokia Traore has established herself as West Africa's most exciting and precocious new talent. She strikes a perfect poise between the roots of traditional African music and her own thoroughly modern outlook on the world. She adopts a bold and cliché-free approach that makes her difficult to place in any easy categories, crossing boundaries to record with the likes of the Kronos Quartet. In 2004 Rokia received a BBC Award for World Music and also made an acclaimed appearance at Womad. • This exquisitely filmed DVD enables the viewer to experience Rokia Traore's stunning live performance. Recorded and filmed in Paris, her adoptive home, she is joined by Keziah Jones on one track. Bonus tracks include a portrait of Rokia, encounters with Pierre Gagnaire, Xuly Bet, Keziah Jones and backstage interviews.
