In contrast to the Whole Consort, in which instruments of the same instrument family play music together, and which in England was mainly reserved for viola da gamba, the Broken Consort consists of various plucked, stringed and wind instruments. Thomas Morley's First Book of Consort Lessons was also intended for this kind of cast. The ensemble La Caccia plays Morley's music in a line-up that not only beautifully accentuates the colorfulness of English Renaissance music, but also emphasizes the immediate joy of playing this music.
