Tourists in Flanders are often restricted to the cities of Bruges and Ghent, although the university city of Leuven, the former capital of Brabant, also has a rich cultural heritage. The latest recording by Björn Schmelzer and Graindelavoix aims to raise awareness of the musical heritage of Brabant. Poissance d'amour (The Power of Love) refers to the title of a 13th century Brabant treatise in which an unknown master introduces the Duke of Brabant to the Ars amatoria. But the power of (divine) love is also the driving force that connects the mystics, monks and minstrels in 13th century Brabant. Of course, this power was also expressed musically and so Björn Schmelzer and his ensemble have collected various pieces from Brabant sources in order to acoustically revive the cultural flowering in Brabant at that time, but also the power of love.
