Vol. 5 of our much-acclaimed SACD edition with complete recording of North German Baroque music played on historical organs contains all surviving works of six more or less well-known composers from northern Germany. Friedhelm Flamme interprets these astonishingly imaginative and inventive – notwithstanding the obscurity of their creators – pieces on the organ of »St. Cosmas and St. Damian« in Bockhorn, built in 1721 / 22; this is today the best-preserved instrument by the organ builder Christian Vater. Its characteristic tonal properties such as the at times harsh sound of the principals and the high polyphonic quality of the plenum are mellowed by the resonance of the great wooden panels inside the church. And once again, the interpreter offers »organ-playing of consummate perfection and technical brilliance, refined by excellent tonal technique and accompanied by plenty of interesting information« (klassik. com on vol. 4).
