DIVOX presents the re-release of a spectacular recording of Sviatoslav Richter's live performances in Tokyo in 1981, which had not been available for several years. The young Sviatoslav Richter first got to know Prokofiev's Sonata No. 6 in A major in a private circle of musicians, where the 49-year-old composer introduced it to his colleagues. Richter was so enthusiastic about "the unusual clarity of style and the structural perfection of the music", which he studied in summer and gave the first concert performance on 14 October, which also introduced his teacher Heinrich Neuhaus. In early 1943 Richter also appeared at the world premiere of the 7th Piano Sonata, and at Prokofiev's 55th birthday in April 1946 he performed the complete triptych - Sonatas No. 6, 7 and 8 - for the first time. The recordings were made by representatives of the company Yamaha, who had received permission from Richter to perform the concerts in the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Hall with a single cassette tape recorder. The resulting distortions and many of the background noises have been eliminated in a careful process of reconstruction and restoration.
