Another exciting debut on MDG: The Meccore String Quartet brings a breath of fresh air to the chamber music world! Fittingly, the four musicians have placed the string quartets of Edvard Grieg on the podium - after all, the disturbingly grandiose G minor Quartet op. 27 marks the turn of the era from Romanticism to Impressionism. The fact that Grieg was unable to complete his second quartet does not detract from the quality of the surviving fragment. And the Meccores compensate for the missing movements on this SACD with a fugue - it dates from the Norwegian master's apprenticeship years.
