This collection celebrates the work of three renowned British composers with recordings of three iconic productions for The Royal Opera. Harrison Birtwistle and David Harsent's The Minotaur is a gripping, visceral drama based on the Greek myth of the bull-headed creature; Anna Nicole, Mark-Anthony Turnage and Richard Thomas's punchy yet compassionate morality tale, explores the doomed life of infamous model Anna Nicole Smith; and the sensuously beautiful Written on Skin, George Benjamin and Martin Crimp's revenge opera, puts an otherworldly spin on a dark, medieval story. With consummate conducting from Royal Opera Music Director Antonio Pappano and George Benjamin himself, striking sets, innovative staging and compelling performances from three impressive casts, these very different but equally captivating operas show the brilliant diversity of contemporary British opera.
