Already in 2007 Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov presented a much praised recording of the first violin sonata by Brahms. Now they complete their cycle with the other two sonatas from 1886 and 1888, and add a rarity 35 years older: the fascinating FAE Sonata, a joint work by three composers in honor of the great violinist Joseph Joachim, who had to guess who had written which movement! This was not too difficult for him, because the Scherzo has something quite Brahmsian about it, while the intermezzo and finale sound completely Schumannesque ..
