Pianist Sergey Zhilin learned a lot from Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner and Art Tatum, all of this mixed with a solid foundation of Russian piano music. Zhilin, a master of intricate patterns and colorful touches, possesses a variety of skills and techniques from powerful large-scale elements (octave and chord passages) to exquisite small-scale vignettes. The program of Sergey Zhilin’s trio titled ‘Tchaikovsky in Jazz. The Seasons’ (Yury Markin’s arrangement) demonstrates that the idea of “classic music in jazz” is still alive and capable of producing unexpected results. •/ Die Jahreszeiten / The Seasons / Les Saisons
