The Bremen Cathedral music director Wolfgang Helbich earned an excellent reputation throughout Germany as an interpreter of classical and romantic music. CPO produced numerous CDs with him over many years and also to experience him in live performances. Sadly, his life came to a sudden end recently. On the occasion of his death we would also like to release his interpretations of apocryphal Bach works in a complete box set. After the successful release of his last volume, which appeared in 2012, Wolfgang Helbich once again stated of Bach's apocryphal works, "For many years these works have interested me as a set of clues pointing to Bach. Even when they were still leading a shadowy existence noticed by nobody in the appendix of the BWV, I wanted to know why Bach had occupied himself with them and whether they might also be rewarding for our times. On the five CD productions of apocryphal Bach works that I have released so far with the Alsfeld Vocal Ensemble on cpo, we have made many finds. We have been able to convey appealing and moving music to interested listeners."
