Antoine Brumel began his career as a choral singer at the Cathedral of Chartres and ended as "maestro di cappella" at the court of Ferrara. The mass "Et ecce terræ motus" is the best known of his ten or so mass compositions; it already captivated his contemporaries with its fullness of tone and contrapuntal virtuosity - and even today it still captivates its listeners with its captivating mixture of technical finesse and deepest ardoralign.
