Performing orchestral works by Claude Debussy initially seemed like a distant dream for Jos van Immerseel. The immense success of the recordings with orchestral works by Ravel and Poulenc brought the dream within reach. The present recording is certainly the most interesting and deserving contribution to the Debussy Year 2012. As once was the case with the Sistine Chapel, Immerseel seems to have subjected the orchestral scores to a thorough cleansing, cleansing them from the encrustations of a performance tradition that goes back more than a hundred years. If you think you know your Debussy from the "ff", you should urgently listen to this recording.
