The composer Carl Nielsen, who was extremely productive in almost all genres, was a driving force behind the development of Danish music in the 20th century. The son of a poor painter and varnisher, who also played the violin, is is now recognized as one of the most important symphonic composers of the 20th century. His chamber music occupies an outstanding position in the international repertoire. • This box, consisting of 4 CDs and 2SACDs, contains all string quartets, violin sonatas and wind works in excellent recordings by the best young Danish soloists and ensembles. The piano works are interpreted in a unique way by pianist Herman D. Koppel, who played them to the composer himself as a young man
