David Oistrakh was the shining winner of the first "Concours Reine Élisabeth de Belgique" in 1937, also known simply as the Ysaÿe Competition after its founder Eugène Ysaÿe. The great violinist had given the impetus for it and also participated in the first preparations before he died in 1931.
In the meantime, the "Concours Reine Élisabeth" has held a first-rate place among the world's music competitions for 75 years, as evidenced by the violinists featured on these four CDs of great violin concertos. From Gidon Kremer, winner of the 1967 prize, the illustrious line-up of laureates extends to Yossif Ivanov, who was awarded the prize in 2005.
