Nakład wyprzedany, ostatni egzemplarz The works on this recording were selected from a unique handwritten collection of violin sonatas, which is kept in the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. What makes them an interesting and remarkable rarity are the notated ornaments. All movements here have been supplemented by one, sometimes even two ornamented versions on separate staves. Even though the Berlin manuscript is not by Benda's own hand, there is much to suggest that it is a very careful and, in terms of decoration, authentic version, which was produced with his knowledge or under his supervision. For this new publication in the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis series on GLOSSA, the Swiss violinist Leila Schayegh (who, together with Amandine Beyer, recently succeeded Chiara Banchini at the SCB) and her continuo partners Václav Luk and Felix Knecht have recorded a selection of Benda's most beautiful ornamented sonatas, which makes it easy to understand why the composer as a violinist was repeatedly praised by his contemporaries for the performance of slow movements.
