On Vol. 8 of our Organ Works of the North German Baroque Friedhelm Flamme interprets Georg Böhm's complete organ oeuvre on the Creutzburg organ in the Church of St. Cyriacus in Duderstadt. Böhm, born in Thuringia, was twenty-four years older than Bach and the organist at St. John's Church in Lüneburg when the young Bach was residing there. Even if documents for a pupil-teacher relationship are lacking, the presence of the highly talented young musician in this town cannot have escaped Böhm's notice. Most of Böhm's organ works are based on chorale melodies. His twenty extant works display a great formal variety. The great number of variation works stands out (with different labels such as »partita« or »variatio«). The diverse figurations, especially with motion into the soprano and bass, showcase Böhm's compositional artistry.
