On Vol. 6 of our edition of Telemann's Wind Concertos the composer continues with sovereign hand to draw on demanding contrapuntal techniques, melodic wealth, and virtuoso figure work to produce complex Concerto structures. When we endeavor to divide Telemann's Concerto oeuvre into groups, we repeatedly encounter compositions that are to be linked together as work pairs. The concertos on Vol. 6 of our complete recording offer special occasion for considerations of this kind concerning »sister works.« It appears that Telemann lent each work group within his concertos its own special stamp, and all fans of music now have the opportunity to trace these tendencies toward the formation of groups and cycles and to draw parallels and establish relations between the pieces to an extent that has never before been possible. Along with La Stagione Frankfurt under its proven conductor Michael Schneider, the Camerata Köln ensemble of soloists performs the »Concerto polonaise, « a work with folkloristic elements and a closeness to natural sound.
