Born in Coimbra in 1704, Seixas went to Lisbon in 1720, where he first became organist and later vice-chapellmeister at the court of Johann V, while Domenico Scarlatti held the position of bandmaster. The two fellow musicians and contemporaries drew their compositions from the same tradition, and to this day the question of who influenced whom to a greater extent has remained unanswered. The 105 sonatas by Seixas, which have survived from the original 700 sonatas, have a remarkable potential of virtuosic effects and a partly very bold harmony. Débora Halász, who was already praised as the "perfect interpreter" for the recording of the first episode of this series (All Music Guide), is again the soloist of the second episode with unusually gripping Baroque music
