Liszt played a key role not only in the founding of the Royal Hungarian Academy of Music, but from the very beginning (1875) until his death he actively contributed to the upswing of the piano subject at the Academy. Although he divided his time between Pest, Weimar and Rome and travelled a lot throughout Europe, he always tried to be present in Pest between Christmas and Easter and to hold his classes. His students, above all Árpád Szendy and István Thomán, continued the piano section of the Academy in Liszt's spirit and with his musical-pedagogical heritage laid the foundations for the Hungarian piano school. All of the artists featured on the present CD are to be regarded as Liszt's musical heirs in direct line through Thomán.
