It doesn't really matter how much one believes to know about Vivaldi's music, his immense oeuvre still offers opportunities for new discoveries; only a fraction of Vivaldi's numerous compositions have been made accessible to the musician and music lover since the rediscovery of the music of the "Red Priest" after the Second World War. And the sound of his music, which is still commonly associated with that of a mechanical clockwork, also urgently needs to be reconsidered. This CD with the lutenist Ronn McFarlane and the Bach Sinfonia under the direction by Daniel Abraham not only presents less known works of the Italian master, but also shows through new interpretative approaches and the renunciation of the harpsichord a more transparent and gallant Vivaldi than the one we have known so far.
