Benjamin de la Fuente was born in Bordeaux in 1969. He studied composition at the Paris Conservatoire Supérieur with Gérard Grisey and improvisation with Alain Savouret. He was subsequently Composer-in-residence at Villa Medici in Rome (2001) and received numerous awards, including the Prix de l'Académie des Beaux-arts de l'Institut de France in 2005. His artistic work as a composer and improvisational violinist has brought him together with numerous renowned artists and ensembles of contemporary music, including Gérard Caussé, the Ensemble Ictus, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Les Percussions de Strasbourg. His catalogue of works with numerous commissioned compositions for important festivals and institutions includes instrumental works for the most diverse instrumentations, from chamber music to larger ensembles, with or without electronics, as well as film and stage music. On this album he gives us an impression of his manifold talents. In his artistic work de la Fuente always tries to follow a new path. He is inspired by the postspectral music, the energy and the sound of rock, the Indian and the polymetric music of the pygmies. But maybe it would be best if you just get involved with his unconventional music and dare to encounter it on this AEON CD.
