The violin or cello sonata with basso continuo, born round about 1700, will be at the zenith before the half of the 18th Century. Under the impulse of Corelli, this model, consisting of dances as well as variations on popular tunes or sentimental movements, conquered without difficulty the whole European continent, with help of dozens of talented ambassadors (composers and/or virtuosi). In this kind of style exercise the "good taste" was cardinal, as well for the continuo (here, with cembalo and/or theorb) as for the solistic embellishments, where the ground knowledge of the matter by Daniel Cuiller and Antoine Ladrette will convince the most sceptics. This new CD by Stradivaria for Cypres, on this point, could be a real discovery of the "stylistic surroundings" of the great Corelli.
