Evert Taube was very versatile: painter, poet, writer of prose, singer, musician, stage performer, and more. During the work on this album, it has become quite clear that nature and women have inspired Taube to poems, music, and great literature.
He emphasizes the beautiful, exciting, colouring in episodes and people he meets. The protagonist is usually himself; his life becomes art. He makes use of his experiences as a sailor, as a yachtsman, a worker at Pampas, his stays in the Mediterranean (Antibes), in Bohuslän and Roslagen, as material to poems and songs (composed poems).
Taube became a central cultural figure in Sweden for more than 50 years, from about 1920 to around 1970. His production was huge, over 270 songs, some twenty prose books, oil paintings, watercolours, a large amount of newspaper articles, several radio and TV programmes and countless stage performances throughout the country. His contribution to the art of song and ballad cannot be overestimated.
