Pianist Andrew Rangell has plotted an individual, ever-involving course in music, setting his virtuosic talents to illuminating the most profound music in the canon.

Rangell has, according to All Music Guide, “through his commanding technique, prodigious intellect and consummate artistry, created a series of recordings that stand comparison to the best ever released.”

His discography now exceeds two dozen albums; the latest entry in his own personal canon is “A Chopin Recital”, a 75-minute traversal of works by the finest poet of the piano in the 19th c., who, as can also be heard here, never lacked for power and drama in his music when the composition called for it.

Mr. Rangell’s range is impressive, as the recital runs from the opening Polonaise-fantaisie, op. 61, through two Nocturnes, the Bolero, op. 19, three of the glorious Ballades, the Prelude, op. 45 and the first Nouvelle Etude in F minor.
