This double CD offers on CD1 the opportunity to hear the Tchaikovsky Competition winner Charles Castleman with some exceptionally listenable and charming Hungarian delicacies by Jenö Hubay. CD2, on the other hand, offers a unique anthology of leading representatives of the Hubay school. Important violinists such as Joseph Szigeti, Emil Telmányi and Franz von Vescey were among his pupils. Also played here are Hubay-Schmankel, which were frequently played in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but regrettably fell into oblivion after World War II. The incomparable charm of the pieces, however, will surely soon lead to a late but well-deserved renaissance.
