In his past recordings, the Californian pianist John Khouri introduced us to some of the little-known Beethoven contemporaries (Cramer, Hummel, Clementi). With the recording of Chopin's 27 etudes on his Broadwood grand piano from 1832, Khouri gives us an impression of the original sound of what is probably the best-known and most musically demanding piano exercises in music history. A long overdue advance, as a Broadwood per se has an abundance of timbres that a modern grand piano does not have.
