The French folk song has been dead for over a hundred years. And the memory of this music has long been extinguished, as have the social functions in which the songs sounded, for example to accompany the peasant working day. Folklorists who try to reconstruct these treasures find themselves confronted with the insurmountable difficulty of total oblivion • In Quebec, the old French colony, which today is a part of Canada, the heritage of the old French folklore has not only been remarkably well preserved, but was also intensively researched in the 1950s and partly recorded in sound recordings. The interpreters of this CD build on these documents and can thus present the sunken treasures of past centuries as a rediscovery.
