The two string quartets united on this CD were composed in 1876 and 1877; in the era when Dvořáks artistic life had entered the stage of mature mastery. The "Hungarian" tone of the revered model Brahms recedes into the background, and his own Slavic accents gain space.
Since 1996 an exclusive contract connects the Kocian Quartet with Praga Digitals. Coming from the great Czech quartet tradition, the musicians have already gained a great reputation among critics and audiences with their recordings.
