The sonatas included in this recording have not received much attention so far, possibly because their performance with historical instruments is absolutely necessary to preserve the subtle combination of timbres and balance required by the composer. Once this has been achieved, as in this beautiful recording, it is surprising to see that the music is of great interest, with very delicate dialogues between the instruments in slow times, and moments of tremendous energy and expressive power in the external ones. The opening sonata, K. 304, is a true masterpiece, a perfect example of Mozart's Sturm und Drang period, violent, rebellious and daring.
Components (as first violin and harpsichordist) of the Europa Galante orchestra, these musicians apply their knowledge and expressiveness in their voluptuous and passionate performances. The natural and fluid way in which they understand this music allows them to exploit all the lyrical and dramatic nuances of the works: quasi-operatic adages of intense beauty, or allegros of overflowing vitality that sound with all their charm in these versions. When listening to the many expressive and poetic details of these works, it could be said that they manage to rediscover these Mozartian sonatas through an intelligent use of tempi (especially in slow movements), a very thoughtful ornamentation and a great attention to internal balance and the structure of the music. For those who believe that it is beautiful music, without more, this album will reveal a new and unsuspected treasure.
